Residents got no warning. http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12487/7242977?cpt=8&wpid=2637 WDEF CBS Chattanooga, TN an extended stay hotel is shut down on brainerd road leaving residents scrambling. this comes after an investigation by the hamilton county district attorney's office. they say the property is a nuisance news 12's robyn estabrook joins us live to explain what is next for the people who lived at the economy inn. residents at the economy inn say they were told the hotel had to be shutdown because of numerous criminal calls over the years. different agencies are helping the people who are displaced. police knocked on doors, garbage bags were taken out and this place was boarded up. the economy inn on brainerd road is being shutdown because the hamilton county district attorney's office says it's a nuisance. joshua anderson moved in a day ago, when officers approached him. joshua anderson/ resident "i ain't no what was going on, i thought i was in trouble." police told him what was going on. " they said we had to move out because of drugs and prostitution stuff. they got tired of the hotel." in july 2015 police investigated a double shooting here. there were more than 800 emergency calls between october 2015 and december 2017 "those include narcotics violations, shots fired, disorderly conducts." the district attorney's office filed a petition in criminal court. andrew coyle/ assistant district attorney "a temporary restraining order that has been issued. it is not permanent yet. the property is going to have five days to come to a hearing." the hearing could go a number of ways. "certainly the judge could declare it a permanent nuisance. we would do a permanent restraining order, essentially shutting it down, but the property also, if they show up they will have the ability to remedy some of the issues that have led to this point." people from different organizations came to help the residents find housing, including the pastor of the east ridge united methodist church. ken sauer/ pastor east ridge united methodist church "we are here for whatever they need." over at the church volunteers were in the kitchen getting ready and making toiletry kits. "there is somebody that cares about them and there is someone that is here for them." for anderson this situation is an inconvenience. "i have to get up and pack all over again. i just moved in here and now i have to move out. that was really frustrating." officials say more than ten students were affected by this. people with the hamilton county department of education were on scene to see how they could help. robyn estabrook, news 12 now.
